Finnish Baroque Orchestra has many plans together with nordic partners. Some of those are introduced in Nordic Baroque Scene -website. Some results can be heard in Helsinki Early Music Festival. Few questions to Olof Larsson from Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble:
What new ideas/inspirations/support have You got from our online-meetings during this Year?
With our quite frequent virtual meetings, I have personally gained a lot of new but information and approaches on how to do what in this cultural area. It is also somehow refreshing to recognize that our four orchestras indeed share a number of challenges in our ambition to provide our respective audiences cultural experiences that make a difference. Therefore, the wonderful cooperative spirit in the team, sharing ideas and injecting inspiration, has been, is, and will be a wonderful and valuable source of new learnings for the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble. And then on top of that, to be part of creating something truly novel within this genre of music, is nothing but amazing to be part of.
How is Your orchestra surviving with corona?
Although I don´t have the exact numbers on top of my head, since February 2020 there has been only a very few occasions where we have played for a live audience, and then for a really small crowd. The vast majority of the planned concerts have been postponed. A good thing during the pandemic, however, is that we have actively moved over to stream our concerts. We can obviously not compete with the large institutional orchestras, but still able to give our audience a sense of being at our concert. I do think this is here to stay, for example by allowing people that due to distance or for other personal reasons cannot attend a given concert, still can enjoy our projects. With excellent governmental support, we are now seeing the light in the tunnel and hope that things will get to something more ´normal´ during the autumn.
What do You expect from our artistic co-operation when we get there after so much organizing? Just like Mari from Barokkanerne said, we too are very much looking forward to get to meet and play together with our colleagues from Finland and Norway. To move from a planning stage to make music live and together. After all, it is in that very moment during a concert where music actually happens ...
