Why Pick Your Price Tickets?
Art improves wellbeing! This can be claimed based on own experience or by studying friends, but nowadays there is also quite a lot research data on the subject. The effects on wellbeing arise by making art yourself and by experiencing it. Perhaps the effects on wellbeing are indirect problem solving, perhaps that the artist can find beauty or other things worth telling about in places that would be overlooked in everyday life. The arts nourishes the brain as well the feelings.
Enjoying arts should be a basic human right, and the effects on wellbeing should apply to everyone. Having art as a hobby is one good way, and in addition to that high-class art by professional artists is needed to inspire amateurs and others.
A professional artist has often honed his or her skills for decades and deserves renumeration for the work. There is also plenty of other work behind a performance: the production and information teams book venues, sheet music, props, lighting, larger instruments, logistics and accommodation for guests as well as produce background material such as programmes presenting background information about the experience. This people behind this valuable work are also compensated.
As an arts organisation, we want to pay the employees wages and in that way support employment. On the other hand, we want to make it possible for as many people as we can to experience art. Art making therefore requires funding, of which part can come from grants or the equivalent, but ticket revenue is also important.
Traditionally, art organisations give ticket discounts to certain groups. In some cases, the festival doesn’t define categories, rather anyone can choose their price category freely. A medium priced ticket is a good option. We recommend the discounted tickets for instance to newcomers in order to encourage experimenting in the arts or to those who cannot afford a bigger contribution. The most expensive category is for the wealthy or for anyone who finds it meaningful to support the arts.
