SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE
Anthony Marini, violin
“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” – this saying is one of the most significant (and oldest) wedding traditions, which brides often still hold on to today. Originating in Victorian England, this phrase highlights how marriage unites old family ties with new married life. In the same way, this concert program for solo violin brings together old and new music.
The program is divided into sets, each with its own theme, such as fantasy, character piece, dance, and improvisation. Each section combines Baroque composers (including Matteis, Vislmayr, Roman, and J.S. Bach) with modern composers (Saariaho, Mustonen, Englund, Verry, Oesterle). The program was conceived during the coronavirus pandemic, but hasn’t been performed in its entirety publicly until this year. Anthony will also guide the audience through the concert, introducing the works in between the sets.
Duration: 60 minutes (no intermission)
Tickets: 25 € (normal ticket), 15 € (concessions), 50 € (benefactor ticket)
