Featuring Eero Palviainen, Finland’s most prolific lute player who has performed with a plethora of ensembles both in Finland and abroad, is presenting an intimate programme of rarely heard gems that made up some of the first works composed for the Baroque lute. While Weiss was one of the most prolific composers during the golden era of lute music, he was preceded by fantastic composers that have not received the same attention. This programme highlights the best of both the French and German schools, while also revealing some of the ways in which their paths crossed.
The second part of the concert features the viola da gamba and how the many members of this instrument family work together in so-called consort music. The programme consists of English and Dutch music from the 16th and 17th centuries, including composers such as Adrian Willaert, Jacobus Clemens non Papa and William Lawes. And it wouldn’t be a proper viol consort concert without the music of John Dowland.
