The character of Marin Marais is immortalized in the movie All the Mornings of the World. Marais played the viola da gamba and served as a musician for the Sun King. In the court of Louis XIV performed also one of the few female composers at that time, Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre. She was a harpsichord virtuoso and her production of music pieces consists of both pieces for harpsichord and stage music, sonatas and cantatas.

Jean-Philippe Rameau was a famous opera composer. His collection Pièces de clavecin en concert consists of five concertos for flute, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord. In the names of the different parts in the collection we find several known people from Rameau's age.

Jacques-Martin Hotteterre was the most famous member of the French music dynasty. The flutist appreciated by his contemporaries came a long way and reached a high position in the French music life. In his compositions the finesses of French baroque blend together with influences from the Italian music.

The German Georg Philipp Telemann was very famous in both his home country and abroad, and during his visit to Paris in 1738 the so called Paris Quartets, a collection of chamber music pieces, were published. Now we get to hear No 6.
