The touching Air composed by Johann Sebastian Bach ends the Helsinki Early Music Festival's Bach concert! Before that, the productions of the Bach family will be sampled even more widely: the Bach family composed, played and listened to the old and new styles of music at the same time. Maestro Johann Sebastian Bach was both respectful of tradition and willing to experiment. He gladly directed his gaze to much older eras, such as the music of his uncles and great-uncles. He was more cautious about new trends.
Johann Sebastian's sons Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Christoph grew up with their father's music, but soon left to find their own paths and new musical languages. We present these amazingly different colors side by side in our program. The Bach family program topic has been taken up by several others, and it's no wonder, it's a coverage of infinitely good music! The Helsinki Early Music Festival's concert will feature works by Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Christoph Friedrich.
The performer of the concert is Encanto House Band, the festival house band which again this year is multinational and well ventilated with fresh cultural breezes. The leader of the joint programme planning as well as the interpretation is the Baroque violinist Georg Kallweit, well-known for his delicate and colourful interpretations.
