RAPITATIVE
The word rapitative comes from the playful mixing of recitative and rap elements. Both of them are the spoken singing of their time, storytelling about current and important matters. During the Baroque era, Recitative was the part in operas and other bigger works where the story was taken forward. Rap and hip hop artists tell the strong stories of today. Spoken singing has been used by many other artists over the years as an effect when expressing strong emotions.
Rapitative is the spoken singing of Helsinki and one of the outcomes of the cooperation between the Finnish National Theatre and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra.
