Did Johann Sebastian Bach have favourite music or favourite composers? Bach constantly searched for new works. As a young man, he copied numerous interesting compositions, yet at the same time, he became interested in his own musical lineage. The concert feature’s Johan Michael Bach’s Ach, wie sehnlich wart ich der Zeit, a work found in J.S. Bach’s own music collections. The rest of the evening’s programme consists of contemporary works written before the 18th century.
The programme, which consists of both spiritual and secular music, deals with beginnings and endings. More concretely, it examines these things in the context of the fear of hunger and war or the experiences of love and hope. As the end approaches, the desire grows for salvation and redemption in one’s spiritual life. The touchingly beautiful songs, sacred concertos and virtuoso chamber music works selected for this concert provide listeners with a glimpse into life’s cosmos, universe and macrocosm.
The concert’s soloist will be one of the winners of the Aria Borealis Bodø Singing Competition, the production of Nordic cooperation. The renowned jury was impressed by the level of the participants and the stylistic awareness associated with historical performance practice. The soloist’s name is Johanna Rosa Falkinger.
